A handsome 17-year-old who is actually only 14, Lionel is an adopted child living in a rural area. While his father sees him as deficient, even retarded, his mother surrounds him with immense, symbiotic, and protective love. Initially fascinated by the boy's charm, Claire, a young engineer from the neighboring construction site, helps him pursue a budding passion. When diverse representation is featured on-screen, it oftentimes comes with strings attached that undermine the message they were trying to send. This can be attributed to the fact that behind-the-screen, the industry primarily does not reflect the breadth of diverse difference that is present in daily life. That’s why when something as powerful and authentic as Minari comes along, it is both incredibly wonderful and needs a large audience to witness it.
In Saudi Arabia, a little girl (Wadjda) is told she can't have a bike because she's a girl. Wadjda struggles to obtain a bicycle to race her friend, Abdullah, due to the gender inequality and cultural norms of Saudi Arabia.
So do I recommend that people see this movie, yes 100%, but do I think they are going to come out of it with 80 hot takes, yes 100%.
I love The Last Jedi. I don’t think there has been a Star Wars movie in quite some time that brought something new, something fresh to the table.
The problem isn’t that it’s bad. It's good. But it fails to stand out from a crowd of similar films.
