Shakti’ is a survival guide for women all over the world.

Eighteen nautical miles east of Amorgos, lies Kinaros. An island of the Aegean sea, in the sea area between Cyclades and Dodecanese. Three people, one place, one dream. Renio makes a promise not to leave the place of his birth alone. On the return "journey" she is followed by her husband and her son. But life had other plans.. The lens observes the everyday life and the struggle of Rhenios to keep alive the lands where her people were born and walked. An attempt by the director to record through her own eyes, integrating the camera into her relationship with the protagonist and letting the events unfold in real time.

In 1971, when discussions about how to integrate their school system break down, the community of Durham, North Carolina agrees to bring in Bill Riddick(Babou Ceesay) to conduct a series of summits(charrettes) to help them move forward with desegregation.
This list was made with the intention of celebrating the craft. I love seeing more women of colour on this list than before and more newcomers on the scene as well!

This modern update of the beloved classic swaps Cyrano's signature pronounced nose for achondroplasia, for a different vision that still retains the original's essence.
