An action-crime movie about two women from the margins who take down kingpins and take back their lives. Marni is a bartender, single mom, and occasional pool hustler in the grimy town of Extraction. Her son Jason gets bullied at school, her boss Daryl creeps on her, and she’s not making ends meet. One night a stranger named Steph strides into the bar and challenges Marni to a game of pool. Marni falls for Steph, wowed by her pool skill and tough-girl persona. They hatch schemes to win money, but when they get the chance, they grab the cash and run. Will they take what they need and extract themselves for good?
Even with its straightforward premise, “Richard Jewell” is ramped up by exceptional drama. In all honesty, the performances are out of this world. As Jewell, Paul Walter Hauser becomes a walking representation of gullibility. His bumbling antics create the perfect hero, and very quickly, we feel the societal heat that surrounds our protagonists.

As this critic continues to look back at some of this Summer's films I have taken in, I would be remiss if I didn't mention one of the most overall unsettling trends in Hollywood over the last several years.....sequels, reboots, and remakes. Look, I am all for seeing more than one film for certain originals that made a splash, ie: "Jurassic Park", "Pirates of the Caribbean", "Transformers", etc.
