Siblings Elsa and Anna are temporarily sharing a house. Driven by grief, the days are torture for Elsa until one night she observes a strange phenomenon. Initially it was a doll that floated into the room, but the cases become more and more frequent. Meanwhile, Anna has trouble believing Elsa's descriptions, even though night after night chickens seem to disappear inexplicably from the coop. Something strange is going on here, but what?
The plot could’ve really been interesting if the elements of lycanthropy was integrated with perhaps the struggle of identity of being LGBTQ+. It's an experience for so many that as they’re starting to realizing their true selves, they feel like a monster, especially if they come from unsupportive homes or communities. Instead, the horror and transformation elements seem thrown in without contemplation of how this could deepen the narrative.
Not only does the system prevent upward mobility, but it makes it incredibly easy to slide from comfortably middle class to unhoused.
It’s not often in America that you turn on the TV and see a show or a movie with a Muslim protagonist. And when they do, they're usually a negative stereotype. Ms. Marvel changes all of that.
This film manages to be simultaneously topical and timeless. Without being preachy, it highlights society’s flawed relationship with tech; insights into the complex ideas of family struggle are expertly dispersed among a perfectly paced and balanced story.
