Patika unexpectedly invites her former university classmates to her newly inherited apartment for a get-together for apparently no reason, after eight years without contact. As a good host, Patika prepares dinner, and thanks to the old campus heart-throb Honda, there’s plenty of wine. Once everyone has arrived—including Vica, now a turbo-charged mother of two, and Nóra, a successful artist freshly returned from abroad—it becomes clear that their host does have a pressing reason for gathering them. A very pressing one.
Twisting what seems to be obvious setups and frameworks is what sets the story structure of Squid Game apart. I appreciate that this narrative is complex but not complicated; an easy enough plot to wrap your head around while still treating the audience like an equal participant in this social commentary
All in all, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged is a film I would recommend. It promotes the bond of sisterhood, which in this case is clearly thicker than blood, as well as courage. No one truly knows how strong they are until they go through something unimaginable and come out changed for the better.
An anti-war film denouncing the valorization of senseless violence, 'All Quiet on the Western Front' is (unfortunately) all too relevant in 2022.
This horror movie combines elements of horror and babysitting with Black representation.
Its predictability shouldn’t distract from the enjoyment that the pure cinematic imagination behind the camera elicits. It is a movie of crises both moral and mortal, oozing with CGI, and thoroughly enjoyable.
