Deadly Choice (1982)

A direct fall into the white savior narrative

In a Whisper is a coming out narrative, but it’s also a story about multiple mother-daughter relationships and the necessity of family.

Dracula evolved from a person to a monster and then from a monster to a person.

Barry Jenkins' masterpiece holds up as the story of a lifetime centered on the intersection of Blackness and gay identity.

Overall, 18 Presents feels more like a soap opera than a drama, and I feel bad for saying that since the concept is based off a tragic story (even though it’s loosely). I’m sure other people will find this film emotional for them, but as for me, it’s bland and forgettable.

Despite everything it was capable of, all of these poor choices strung together amount to nothing more than a counter-productive film.
