American auteur David Lynch opens up about the magic of the cinema in this new profile from Stella McCartney. Created by Lynch's son Austin Lynch and fine artist Case Simmons, the creative duo behind Los Angles-based studio Tête-à-Tête, their film offers us a rare insight into Lynch behind the lens, teaching us about his theory of film as well as his lifelong pursuit of transcendental meditation.
Those saying it's a bad movie simply because it's bad as a slasher should be reminded that the likes of Jordan and Alexandra often don’t get their tales told, let alone in such major releases helmed by veteran actors like Bacon.
The plot could’ve really been interesting if the elements of lycanthropy was integrated with perhaps the struggle of identity of being LGBTQ+. It's an experience for so many that as they’re starting to realizing their true selves, they feel like a monster, especially if they come from unsupportive homes or communities. Instead, the horror and transformation elements seem thrown in without contemplation of how this could deepen the narrative.
'Playing with Fire' was clearly a film made for a kid or tween-ish audience. Keeping that in mind, I thought 'Playing with Fire' was alright, though it did portray some harmful stereotypes.
Overall this movie was an easy watch, but by no means a worthwhile watch.
The movie is centered around the title character who goes on a Christmas adventure.
Alongside A Drowning Man, I Signed The Petition, 3 Logical Exits, and A World Not Ours, A Man Returned continues to paint a realistic portrait of the Refugee Crisis that eschews the Western gaze and stereotype. These are real portraits painted by a director with lived experience, cultural connection and an amazing eye for visuals.
