Kicked out of their home and disowned by their parents for who they are, a young college student, Everest finds themselves in a state of limbo amidst a mental breakdown. As they fade in and out, a glimmer of hope makes itself known.
Unlike other documentaries about Princess Diana, Perkins’ film, 'The Princess', is an entire documentary consisting of media coverage and public opinion, rather than a typical series of people interviewed with firsthand experience of the Princess. 'The Princess' beautifully depicts how we perceive Diana as a media figure rather than a real person, specifically creating her persona as a fairytale figure turned saint and icon.
A short film that begins with the language of romance but slowly reveals something far more unsettling beneath the surface.
This is not a slavery story, it is a freedom story. The viewers only see Harriet as a slave for the first few minutes of the film. To me, it felt like watching the origin story of a superhero…which is both good and bad.
Black Christmas movies are few and far in between to find — so it is wonderful to see more representation on the screen just in time
