An American in Prague is widely considered not only one of the Bel Ami out-and-out masterpieces, it's also one of the biggest-selling gay adult titles in history. To celebrate the illustrious studio's 20th anniversary - holy fuck, it's been twenty years already? - maestro George Duroy has gone back to his roots so to speak and fashioned this gorgeous re-imagining of the famed classic. The cast here? Just as delicious and as to die for as before. Prague will never be the same. Behold this first of a two-part new classic.
Hiring bias is something that's rampant in all industries (even unconscious bias). But writing a script totally neutral not only opens the door for more diverse actors, but also for characters that are people first.
Two Distant Strangers (2020) centers around Carter James (Joey Bada$$) as he tries to get back home to his pitbull, Jeter, after spending a night at the apartment of his date Perri (Zaria Simone). What gets in the way of Carter reuniting with his dog is that every time he tries to leave Perri’s apartment, he is killed by police and wakes up back in her bed in a never-ending cycle. It addresses the issue of police brutality which rightly has been in the public eye more and more with the unjust deaths caused at the hands of law enforcement.
In this short film, writer/director Nikita Hattangady focuses on Jai, a starving artist rooted in the latter category. Though unhoused, he works hard.
There’s enough evidence to insinuate that What We Do in the Shadows is intentionally queer-coded.
