It is the story of Ajani, an undergraduate at the University of Ibadan who is in his final year. He is under pressure from his mother to find a partner, and unwittingly finds himself in a love dilemma - dating three women simultaneously; Asake, a secondary school teacher, is his long-term girlfriend. He meets Lola, a fresher who is tall, slim, and pretty. The situation gets complicated when he meets a childhood acquaintance, who eventually takes center stage in the 'drama of love'. Asake's father badgers her to sever her relationship with Ajani but she however falls pregnant and Lola finds out and Ajani has to choose a wife under duress from his mother.
Eventually, “Hobbs and Shaw” introduces us to a Samoan community. Clearly, Johnson’s Samoan roots are on display. Quite frankly, I found this section of the film very intriguing. The “Fast and Furious” franchise has a solid track record in the diversity department
Perhaps the most amazing and groundbreaking quality about The Birdcage is how removed it is from both illness and insensitivity. Whereas films preceding it were often somber stories about the tribulations of being gay in a conservatively straight world, Nichols and screenwriter Elaine May expose the fallacies of conservatism as traditional values are thrown into a more open-minded space. They don’t care how far the community has fallen so much as how high they can rebuild themselves.
