Born in Sighet, Hungary (now Romania) on December 4, 1927 (age 98)

Livia Fränkel, born Szmuk, is a Hungarian/Swedish Holocaust survivor. On May 14, 1944, Livia and her family, along with other Hungarian Jews, were deported in freight wagons from Sighet. After three days Livia ended up in Auschwitz-Birkenau, where she and her older sister Hédi was separated from their parents. The parents were murdered on the night between May 17 and 18, 1944, in one of the gas chambers in Auschwitz-Birkenau.
